Ellie’s story— Following an asthma attack in June of 2023, Ellie was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), affecting her mobility and causing her to experience severe difficulties with standing and complex moments. Her FND required Ellie to need assistance when transitioning from her wheelchair to other positions or surfaces and impeded her ability to move independently.

Starting her journey at MOTIONrehab in January 2024, Ellie has worked through and beyond her program to make impressive improvements to her physical abilities. Working closely alongside Ellie and her family, MOTIONrehab guided Ellie through her treatment, including specialist neurological physiotherapy, functional electric stimulation (FES), and personal training to build up her mobility and confidence.

When starting her recovery with MOTIONrehab, Ellie showed her dedication to her personal milestones. Wanting to resume her educational studies and increase her work commitments, Ellie displayed a strong dedication to balancing her professional aspirations with her recovery journey, which she continued throughout her entire recovery process.

When developing her mobility and fitness, Ellie made huge strides with the LEXO gait trainer and FES in conjunction with functional movements in the gym to transition her from full-time wheelchair use to independent walking both indoors and outdoors. Following this achievement, Ellie continued her impressive fitness development, going on to complete a team Hydrox workout with the support of her physiotherapists. This intensive session involved various physical challenges, including running, rowing, and sledge-pulling, demonstrating Ellie’s physical and mental determination.

Since completing her physiotherapy treatment at MOTIONrehab, Ellie has gone on to set and achieve multiple personal goals outside of the facility.

Ellie now actively participates in various activities outside of her physiotherapy, including dancing and aquafit. She thoroughly enjoyed these activities during a recent holiday abroad, where she was able to walk independently while wearing flip-flops and heels, which had previously been challenging before her recovery.

Now 10 months since beginning her FND recovery at MOTIONrehab, Ellie enjoys an independent and active lifestyle, continuing her personal training sessions closer to home and setting new goals for her mobility. Now no longer requiring routine physiotherapy, Ellie has levelled-up her training sessions, adding box jumping, treadmill running, and bike riding to her list of skills and accomplishments.

Since her initial FND diagnosis, Ellie has shown admirable dedication and perseverance throughout her recovery with ongoing support and encouragement that have proven essential for her continued success.

The team at MOTIONrehab are thrilled with Ellie’s progress and we can’t wait to see what she achieves next!
