Kirsty's Story

Kirsty was a student nurse at university in her final year when she fell very ill in November 2019. Kirsty needed to have a large tumour removed from her brainstem and her cerebellum in an emergency lifesaving operation in February 2020.

Since then, Kirsty has been working hard with her rehabilitation. Kirsty started with MOTIONrehab in August 2021. The main aspects she wanted to work on were her balance, co-ordination and fine motor skills. Her overall goals were to improve the quality of her walking and to be more independent overall in daily life.

On starting with MOTIONrehab Kirsty has been using the robotic technology combined with traditional Physiotherapy and has now completed three intensive rehabilitation programmes and is currently into her fourth. Kirsty lives in Scotland so this has shown great commitment and drive from herself and her family.

Kirsty has increased her exercise tolerance, barely breaking a sweat on our LEXO even after 45 minutes! She has been using our upper limb devices to work on her co-ordination, timing and precision which she has found challenging but there are great improvements to be seen.

Kirsty has previously struggled with her standing balance, tending to sway forwards and backwards, this is showing improvement over time and she can now stand confidently unaided. Her speed and balance when walking have also improved.

Kirsty continues to push towards new goals and be challenged in different activities. Watching the videos back of Kirsty’s walking in August’21 vs March’22, shows how far she has come.

Keep going Kirsty!
