Liz’s story – Starting her journey in April 2024, Liz joined MOTIONrehab’s Doncaster clinic to help tackle her challenges with body tremors, cognitive functioning, and dual-tasking which were impacting her daily life.

Before beginning her 3-week intensive rehabilitation course at MOTIONrehab, Liz experienced various difficulties due to the symptoms presented by her Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Everyday tasks such as walking, running, and climbing the stairs became more strenuous, impacting Liz’s movement and confidence in her mobility. With goals to expand her understanding of her condition and improve her symptoms, Liz worked extensively with the MOTIONrehab team to build long-term management strategies and empower Liz with the knowledge and confidence she needed to continue her impressive progress independently.

Liz’s achievements:

  • Walking and running confidently without support.
  • Driving independently.
  • Returning to work.
  • Continuing to be an exceptional mum, partner, and friend.

To help improve Liz’s understanding and management of her FND, MOTIONrehab worked with Liz to develop a unique 3-week intensive rehabilitation plan which focused on not only developing Liz’s physical strength and ability to manage her symptoms but also her understanding and knowledge of her condition, which Liz has highlighted as being crucial to her recovery.

From the very beginning, Liz showed exceptional determination and resilience towards her rehabilitation, engaging in various trial-and-error exercises to develop effective strategies for the long-term management of her FND.
During the 3-weeks, the program utilised equipment and techniques to improve Liz’s symptoms, using a combination of education, cognitive exercises, and physical therapy. With MOTIONrehab’s Lexo gait trainer, Liz was able to make huge improvements in her walking and running ability, allowing her to build strength and confidence in her strides. In addition to the Lexo trainer, Liz and the MOTIONrehab team practised distraction techniques and mental exercises to help further manage the impact of her FND symptoms, which Liz states were particularly helpful during her recovery.

Now fully able to confidently walk, run, and drive on her own, Liz has shown incredible resilience and progress, recently returning to work and continuing to be the inspiring mother, partner, and friend she has always been. Liz has stated that her experience at MOTIONrehab has greatly improved her understanding and management of FND and she felt heard, understood, and supported throughout the entire process. The team at MOTIONrehab are delighted with Liz’s progress both inside and outside the clinic and is eager to see her list of achievements build as her journey continues.
