LEE'S STORY

Living Life to the Full with MS

When Lee Robinson first came to MOTIONrehab Hull in 2020, he was living with the challenges of multiple sclerosis (MS), including a left foot drop and ankle weakness. These impairments were significantly affecting his mobility—causing regular trips and falls—and as a result, he was becoming less active.

Lee’s goal was clear: he wanted to improve his walking speed, balance, and overall functional mobility so that he could safely continue walking and stay as independent as possible.

Lee has made fantastic progress through consistent therapy and dedication. With the introduction of a Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) device—funded by the NHS—he began to see real improvements.

We documented Lee’s journey in three key stages:

  1. Walking without FES – Lee demonstrated the typical gait challenges caused by his MS-related foot drop.
  2. Walking with FES support – The difference was clear: the FES helped lift his foot more effectively, reducing the risk of trips and increasing walking efficiency.
  3. Incorporating physiotherapy advice – By using an elbow crutch to improve weight-bearing on his left side, Lee achieved a more balanced and natural gait pattern.

Now a confident FES user, Lee’s future goals focus on maintaining and building on these improvements. He aims to keep using the device to support an active lifestyle and live life to the fullest.

“I just want to be the best I can be, and as active as possible,” says Lee.

His journey is a fantastic example of how personalised rehabilitation, paired with the right technology and ongoing support, can make a meaningful difference for people living with MS.
