Brain Injury Rehabilitation
Dan joined MOTIONrehab Hull following his discharge from hospital after sustaining a hypoxic brain injury caused by a cardiac arrest in August 2024. When he began his rehabilitation journey, Dan was a full-time wheelchair user and had been unable to stand or walk since his injury.
At the start of his therapy, Dan faced significant physical challenges, including:
- Inability to stand or walk
- Reduced sitting posture and core control
- Limited range of movement in his knees
- Overall reduced independence in mobility and transfers
Dan is motivated to regain his independence and has been working closely with the MOTIONrehab team and other healthcare professionals as part of a wider multidisciplinary approach. His goals include:
- Improving sitting posture and core strength
- Increasing knee range of movement
- Standing and transferring safely
- Taking supported steps
Dan has made an encouraging start to his rehabilitation. Through a combination of robotic-assisted therapy and hands-on physiotherapy, he is now able to stand with the support of a frame. He has also taken his first few supported steps – a significant milestone on his journey.
The focus moving forward is to:
- Build Dan’s exercise tolerance
- Further improve lower limb range of movement
- Strengthen his ability to stand and transfer independently
This is just the beginning for Dan, and we’re excited to continue supporting his recovery and share more updates on his progress in the coming months.
