On Friday 12th January, MOTIONrehab announced that it will be opening a brand new Intensive Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in Doncaster.

The Doncaster clinic will be MOTIONrehab’s third Intensive Robotic Neurological Rehabilitation Centre. This centre will offer the complete upper and lower limb Tyrosoloution from Tyromotion including it’s Robotic Gait Trainer, the LEXO enabling MOTIONrehab clients to accelerate their outcomes from rehabilitation. MOTIONrehab is proud to be the first neurological rehabilitation company in the UK to not only pioneer intensive rehabilitation augmented with robotics but be the first in the UK open three intensive rehabilitation centres.

The centre on Doncaster will offer patients specialist one to one hands-on therapy from experienced and highly skilled clinicians. Uniquely to other clinics in the area, clients will also spend time training with the evidence-based robotic, motion-sensor and virtual reality devices. This allows patients to practice the high number of repetitions of movements which is critical to neuroplasticity and achieving better outcomes faster than traditional hands-on therapy alone. High-intensity rehabilitation has recently been endorsed in the National Stroke Guidelines (Sept, 2023)

MOTIONrehab’s Clinical Director and Business Owner, Sarah Daniel says

“Evidence tells us that patients need to do a high number of repetitions and lots of practice in a dynamic environment to help achieve their rehabilitation goals quicker. This was the vision for MOTIONrehab’s first clinic and what we have seen is the vision really works. The more our patients do the quicker they get better and the more satisfying our jobs are. It might be the smallest of things, suddenly they can stand up for the first time, they can open their fingers for the first time, but when that leads into being able to eat and drink on their own, being able to go back to their own home or even managing to go to the toilet on their own. Those are huge wins from tiny little steps of rehab to get them there.

Seeing that the vision really works in our Leeds and Hull clinics has led to MOTIONrehab’s investment in a third robotic technology suite in Doncaster. The team and I are really excited to expand our services to reach more people with neurological illness and injuries to help them reach their potential.”

So Why Is Intensive Neurological Rehabilitation Important?

After injury or illness of the brain or spinal cord the aim of rehabilitation is to promote the re-wiring of the nervous system (neuroplasticity) to re-learn the lost or damaged movements. The role of Neurological Physiotherapy aims to help individual͛s relearn the lost or impaired movements. However, the key to adopting the newly learnt movements is practice.

It is therefore crucial that individuals have an opportunity to repeat and practice movement to cement the new connections. This is difficult to achieve with traditional physiotherapy and exercise alone! Increasingly over the last decade or so Rehabilitation Technology has provided the means for mass practise and repetition of movements. MOTIONrehab’s Intensive Neurological Rehabilitation centres with its Robotics-Led rehabilitation is able to provide truly high repetition rehabilitation essential for the optimisation of outcomes and a quicker recovery.
